This article explains multi-factor authentication (MFA) — an extra security step at login — and how to set it up and manage it for your Loyalsnap account.
What is MFA?
Multi-factor authentication adds a second step when you log in. After your email and password, you enter a short code from your phone. That way, even if someone learns your password, they can't get into your account without your device.
MFA applies to your own login and works in both the web portal and the mobile app. Setting it up once covers both.
Choosing a Method
You can secure your account with either method — or both:
- Authenticator App (Recommended) — an app like Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password generates a code that refreshes every 30 seconds. It's the most secure option and works even without cell signal.
- SMS — we text a code to your phone number. Convenient, but less secure than an authenticator app.
How to Set Up MFA
- Go to Settings and open the Security page.
- Find the method you want and click Set up. The Authenticator App is listed first and marked Recommended.
Set up an authenticator app
- Click Set up next to Authenticator App.
- Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code shown on screen (or enter the setup key manually).
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app to verify, then confirm.
Once verified, the method shows as enabled.
Set up SMS
- Click Set up next to SMS.
- Enter your phone number.
- Enter the code we text you to verify.
Logging In with MFA
After you enter your email and password, you'll be asked for your code:
- If you have one method set up, you go straight to the code prompt.
- If you have more than one, you can pick with Use a different method.
- Enter the current code from your app, or the code we text you, to finish signing in.
Password managers like 1Password can fill your authenticator code for you at login, so you don't have to type it.
Managing Your Methods
Back on the Security page you can add a second method or remove one:
- A method's icon is grey when it isn't set up and green once it's verified.
- To remove a method, click the dropdown arrow next to its button and choose Delete.
Setting up more than one method is a good idea — if you lose access to one, you can still get in with the other.
Troubleshooting / FAQs
Q: I'm locked out of my account because of MFA. What do I do?
A: Reach out to your Loyalsnap rep or contact support. Our team can verify your identity and help unlock your account.
Q: I got a new phone. How do I move my authenticator?
A: Log in with your existing method if you still can, go to Settings > Security, and set up the authenticator app on your new phone. If you can no longer log in, contact support to help you reset it.
Q: Which method should I choose?
A: The Authenticator App is recommended — it's more secure than SMS and works without cell signal. SMS is fine if you'd rather receive a text.
Q: Can I use more than one method?
A: Yes. You can set up both an authenticator app and SMS, and choose Use a different method at login. Having a backup helps if you lose access to one.
Q: I don't see the Security page — where is it?
A: Go to Settings and look under Account for Security.
