This article explains the Blast Score — a real-time quality check in the SMS blast editor — and how to use it to send messages that cost less and deliver better.
What is the Blast Score?
The Blast Score tells you how your SMS blast message will perform before you send it. As you type in the Content section of an SMS blast, a score appears in the editor: Good, Fair, or Poor. The editor border also changes color — green, amber, or red — so you can see at a glance where you stand.
The score is based on two things:
- Message length. Text messages are sent in segments of up to 160 characters. A longer message uses more segments, and you're charged for each segment, per recipient.
- Emoji use. Emojis change how your message is encoded, which shrinks each segment to 70 characters. A few emojis can turn a one-segment message into a two- or three-segment message — doubling or tripling your cost.
A short message with no emojis scores Good. A long message with several emojis scores Poor.
Who Can Use This?
The Blast Score appears for every studio with SMS Blasts enabled — nothing to set up. The Optimize with Loyalsnap Intelligence button also requires AI messaging to be enabled for your studio.
If you don't see the Optimize button, AI messaging isn't enabled on your account yet. Contact your Loyalsnap rep to have it turned on.
How to Check What's Hurting Your Score
- Open your SMS blast and expand the Content section.
- Type your message. The score appears automatically once there's content.
- Click the score chip (Good / Fair / Poor) in the editor.
- A Blast Score window opens showing exactly what's affecting your score, for example:
- How many emojis were detected and what they do to your message size
- Your character count, how many segments that becomes, and the cost per recipient
- For large sends (over 1,000 recipients), the total estimated cost of the blast
If there are no issues, you'll see "Your message looks great — no issues detected."

How to Fix Your Message with One Click
You can rewrite the message yourself — or let Loyalsnap Intelligence do it:
- Click Optimize with Loyalsnap Intelligence in the editor toolbar (or inside the Blast Score window).
- A panel opens showing your Original message and an Improved message side by side, along with the estimated cost of the improved version.
- Not happy with the suggestion? Click the refresh icon to generate a new one.
- Click Use to replace your message with the improved version.
Your merge fields (like the client's first name) are kept — the rewrite only tightens the wording.
Right after applying a suggestion, an Undo option appears at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds. You can also keep editing the message manually — the suggestion is a starting point, not a lock.
What Happens When You Save a Low-Scoring Blast
If you save a message scored Fair or Poor, Loyalsnap shows a warning first: a low-scoring blast may lead to higher costs and possible delivery issues, and you may still be charged even if messages are not delivered.
From that window you can:
- Optimize with Loyalsnap Intelligence — fix the message first
- Save this Blast Anyway — proceed with your message as written
- Close the window and keep editing
You're always in control — the warning is there so cost surprises don't happen.
Troubleshooting / FAQs
Q: Why don't I see a Blast Score?
A: The score only appears once you've typed something in the Content section of an SMS blast. If the editor is empty, there's nothing to score yet. The score currently applies to SMS blasts only.
Q: Why don't I see the Optimize with Loyalsnap Intelligence button?
A: AI messaging isn't enabled for your studio. Contact your Loyalsnap rep to have it activated. The Blast Score itself still works without it.
Q: My score is Poor but I need to send this exact message. Can I?
A: Yes. When you save, you'll see a warning with the cost breakdown — click Save this Blast Anyway to proceed. Keep in mind long or emoji-heavy messages cost more per recipient and may face delivery issues.
Q: Will the AI rewrite remove my merge fields?
A: No. Merge fields like the client's first name are preserved in the improved message. Review the suggestion before clicking Use — you can always regenerate or edit it after.
Q: I applied a suggestion by mistake. Can I undo it?
A: Yes — click Undo in the message that appears at the bottom of the screen right after applying. If you missed it, you can edit the text manually; your blast isn't saved until you click Save.
Q: Does a Good score guarantee my messages will be delivered?
A: No. The score reflects message length and emoji use, which drive cost and can affect delivery. Other factors — like client opt-in status — also matter. See Understanding A2P 10DLC and SMS Compliance.
